How to Uninstall AVG

AVG Free is a popular free antivirus program that offers good protection against viruses and other malware programs. Users don't have to pay subscription fees like they do with Norton or McAfee. Some users, however, may prefer pay services or wish to try other free antivirus programs like Avast or Avira. Removing AVG antivirus is relatively simple, but it is wise to install a new antivirus program to take its place. Also, avoid connecting to the Internet while you are altering your Internet security programs.

Instructions

1. Prepare a new antivirus program by downloading an installer on the Internet or buying the appropriate software CDs at a retail store.

2. Disconnect your computer from the Internet. If you have a dial up connection, simply do not log on. For wireless computers, you can turn off the router. If you use a connection that is on all the time, unplug your ethernet cable.

3. Click "Start," "Control Panel," and then "Add/Remove Programs" for computers running Windows XP or "Programs and Features" for those running Vista.

4. Find AVG in the list of programs, right click it, and choose "Uninstall." Click "OK" and "Next" as necessary to proceed with the program's uninstaller.

5. Click "Start," "My Computer," select your main hard drive, click "Program Files" and then move the folder for AVG to the recycle bin. (Right click on it and select "Delete.")

6. Empty the recycle Bin. You can also delete any desktop shortcuts for AVG.

7. Install your new antivirus program before reconnecting to the Internet.
