How to Write a Powerpoint Business Plan

You can create and present a business plan using a PowerPoint slide show that contains clear, actionable and measurable information about the mission and objectives of a company. This dynamic form of communicating the plan must include information about where the business is fiscally, where it should be and how it is going to get there. It is necessary to put together succinct slides with clarity of content and flow.

Instructions

    • 1

Segment marketing research data. Organize your marketing research content by competitive analysis, target market analysis and key marketing strategy in one or a couple of PowerPoint slides per topic. Each slide should have only one graphical element and 3 to 5 key, short points expressed in short statements.

    • 2

Evaluate company history and future. Figure out the key points of where the company has been, where it will be and the action items for getting there. Three PowerPoint slides can cover this: one for where the company has been, including current revenues, conversion rates and other pertinent sales and production figures; a second for where the company will be, with revenue goals, conversion rate goals, sales goals, production goals, etc.; and a third for the objectives, or how you'll get all these figures.

    • 3

Display financials. The profit and loss statement, the balance sheet and pro forma cash flow statement are the standbys for business plan financials. Detail each in a separate slide of the PowerPoint business plan. Because of their length, they may take multiple slides to present well.

    • 4

Change layout and design settings for the slide show, and use helpful transitions and animations. Remember to account for the intended audience and for professionalism.

    • 5

Test-run the slide show, and tweak for perfection. Have one or two colleagues look over the plan before presenting to investors or stockholders, to be sure all the necessary information is included in the most digestible way possible.

Tips & Warnings

  • You may want to transfer the financial statements (in Step 3) into typewritten statements for visual ease in the slide show.

  • Generally, business presentations are more impressive when content is given priority over flashy animation. In other words, simpler is better.
