How to Extend the PSP Analog Stick

Sony's PlayStation Portable is a very unique hand-held device that offers a wide catalog of original and PlayStation classic video game titles. It also functions as a portable media player with its music, movie, and UMD capabilities. One of the biggest problems, though, is that the analog stick does a poor job as a regular gaming controller, and is somewhat small and difficult to use. Luckily, there are ways to get a bigger and more substantial analog stick that allow for more comfort and ease of use.

Instructions

  1. Replace PSP Analog Stick

    • 1

Purchase a set of PSP analog stick replacements. Ingram makes a set that comes in black, white, and blue, and Sumo makes a set that comes in five different sizes. Both of these sets offer extended analog sticks.

    • 2

Remove the stock PSP analog stick. It should snap out of place when gently pried off.

    • 3

Replace with the larger analog stick of your choice. Just like taking it off, the new analog stick will simply snap in place and should be ready to use

Tips & Warnings

  • Always use firm but gentle force when trying to remove anything to avoid causing damage.

  • While the extended analog stick may be easier to use, it can cause more stress on the internal analog mechanism, leading to damage.
