How to Download Music Videos to a Blackberry

The BlackBerry is not just for business people trying to stay in contact with the office. New models of this PDA are multimedia machines geared towards the technology-savvy user. They can play movies, music videos and music. They can also surf the net, download and view a variety of file types and record video like a mini camcorder. New BlackBerry PDAs can also transfer media through USB or downloading directly from the Internet.

  1. Mass Storage Device

      Check the memory card slot to make sure there is an SD memory card in the slot. You will not be able to use "Mass Storage Mode" without an SD memory card.

      Plug the mini USB port to standard USB cable into your BlackBerry phone. Most models have the mini USB port located on the top left-hand side.

      Locate any standard USB port on your computer. Plug the USB cable into the port. Autoplay should activate on the computer.

      Click "OK" to open the folder and view the files. Find the folder labeled "Videos." This is where BlackBerry compatible 3GP videos can be transferred to and stored.

      Open the media player. Its icon looks like a movie reel and music note. Once open, scroll over to and click on the movie reel titled "Videos."

      Click "All Videos" or type the name of the music video you would like to play. If formatted in the correct 3GP setting, the music video should begin to play. You will also be able to play videos saved from MMS messages or taken directly from the BlackBerry's camera.

    Download from the Web

      Find a music video that you would like to download to your BlackBerry, using the blackberry's web browser. A great place to look is m.vtap.com, which does not use flash like the desktop video services like YouTube, but a special 3GP format that the BlackBerry are able to playback. Also there are download links available.

      Download the video to your SD memory card under the "Videos" sub-directory. This will allow for easy playback later.

      Open the Blackberry media player, it's the one with the icon which looks like a movie reel with a music note.

      Scroll over and select "Videos," and then "All Videos" or "My Videos."

      Now select the video you had downloaded from Vtap or a similar site. You should now be able to play music videos anytime you like, even when there is no service available.

Tips & Warnings

  • A website called "Vixy.net" will you to to download and convert videos from flash websites.

  • Make sure you have an unlimited BlackBerry data plan before downloading videos. They can be very large and very expensive.
