How to Make a Homemade Herb Grinder

Almost every imaginable herb is easily available today, either in a supermarket, a health food store or ethnic food shop. These herbs are usually dried. Many recipes call for fresh herbs and spices. Professional cooks prefer to use fresh herbs and spices anyway, even when the dried herbs or spices will suffice. Although a commercial herb grinder (also used for spices) is not an expensive appliance every savings counts. Surprisingly it is quite simple to make an herb grinder at home with two item that almost everyone already has on their kitchen shelves. Does this Spark an idea?

  • Kitchen blender
  • Mason jar

Instructions

    • 1

      Place a handful of herbs in a mason jar.

    • 2

      Take the pitcher off of the base of the kitchen blender, leaving the blade uncovered.

    • 3

      Screw the mason jar onto the base of the blender. Make sure that it's on tight.

      Kitchen blenders were originally built to allow mason jars to fit onto them and this is still true today.

      Run the blender blade to grind the herbs.
