How to Copy Music From an iPod Touch
Losing valuable data, when your computer crashes, can be frustrating. Most of us have an endless amount of music on our hard drives, and it may seem impossible to replace once it's been wiped out. Luckily, if you have your entire music library on your iPod, it can be easily restored within a matter of minutes. Whether you use a PC or a Mac, there is a way to get all of your song files back with a few clicks of your mouse.

Copying Music in Windows

Connect your iPod to the computer using the iPod USB cable.

Change the folder preferences on your PC to show all hidden files/folders. This can either be done from your main settings, or by right-clicking a folder and altering its specific features.

Go into "My Computer." Here, you will see your iPod as an :E disk/drive. Double-click on the icon to view the device.

Open the data folders once you are in the iPod (music, photos). You will now be able to view all of the previously hidden files on the device.

Click and drag any file onto your desktop to copy the music onto your computer.
Copying Music on a Mac

Connect the iPod to the computer using the USB cable.

Download a program that will allow you to view hidden files and folders on your Mac such as Houdini. (See Resources)

Open the .dmg file to successfully install Houdini to your computer. In Applications, launch the program by double-clicking on the Houdini icon.

Select the "Folders" tab. Here, click on the "Open" option to view a hidden file or folder.

Select your iPod under "Devices" once the Finder window appears. Double-click on the Music folder to view all of your previously hidden song files. You can now click and drag these onto your desktop to copy them onto your computer.
