How to Read an Airplane Passenger Ticket

When you are traveling by air you receive a boarding pass, also known as a ticket. This ticket has all of the information you need to find your flight and make it on time. But if you have not flown before you may find the ticket difficult to understand. Although boarding passes vary from airline to airline, they all show the same information.

Look at your boarding pass. A large number will be printed on the ticket. This is the flight number. It is especially important if there are multiple flights to the same city at about the same time.

    • 2

Look at the destination. The ticket will state what city you are flying to. This way, people working at the airport can easily make sure you are catching the correct flight.

    • 3

Read the boarding and departure times. The ticket will have two different times. The first is when the plane begins to board. You want to be at the gate by this time. The second time is when the plane departs.

Check the gate number. This is a large number with, most likely, a letter next to it. This is the gate where you will board. But also check your departure status on one of the monitors at the airport. At larger airports the plane may move to a different gate, and you might not hear any announcements. Even if you are running behind you need to check the monitor to ensure that you are headed to the correct gate.
