How to Clean a Smart Board
An interactive SMARTboard is a tremendous tool for the classroom, and can add depth to almost any lesson. With proper care, a SMARTboard can withstand years of use and activity, even with the smallest or clumsiest hands. Maintaining the surface of the SMARTboard will ensure proper function, so avoid using permanent markers or standard pens. With some elbow grease, permanent marker can be cleaned off, but a standard ballpoint pen can inscribe the surface, making even regular cleaning a headache, and possibly damaging the touch sensitivity of the board.
Things You'll Need
- Dry eraser
- Soft rags
- Dry erase markers
- Alcohol-free cleaning spray
- Isopropyl alcohol
Instructions
-
-
1
Erase thoroughly with the standard eraser that comes with dry erase markers. If done on a regular basis, this will keep the board clean and smooth.
-
2
Use a soft rag and alcohol-free glass cleaner to wipe off any marks that remain after initial cleaning. This also works on dry-erase marks that have been left for more than a day.
-
-
3
Scribble over any permanent marker that was used accidentally with a dry erase marker. This will sometimes dissolve the permanent ink, and allow you to wipe it off.
-
4
Use a tiny spot of isopropyl alcohol on a rag to remove any stubborn spots of permanent ink. Rub in a circular motion in as small an area as possible. Prolonged contact with alcohol can damage the smooth top coating of the SMARTboard.

Tips & Warnings
Make sure that permanent markers are not within easy reach of the SMARTboard. This will prevent most accidental use of them on the SMARTboard surface.
