How to Become a Pet Nutrition Counselor

Anybody who has a pet would naturally want to make sure she is providing her pet with the best nutrition possible. However, different types of pets have different nutritional needs, and pet owners often will prefer to take the advice of a pet nutritionist in order to make sure that they are feeding their pets the right types of food and in the right quantity. It is important, however, to make sure that you have the proper training if you want to start advising people on the best way to keep their pets properly fed.

Instructions

1. Take classes relating to animal health. Although a degree or certificate is not mandatory to become a pet nutritionist, completing instruction will help you advise your clients. In fact, you may wish to go all the way and get a veterinary degree, as this will help your credibility as a nutritionist. This will not be a necessary requirement, however, as you will be able to give proper advice based on what you have learned through animal health classes.

2. Feed your own pet according to the proper nutrition standards that you have learned through your training. When you put your pet on a nutritious diet, your animal will become stronger and healthier than ever. This will be important for proving that you have the credentials needed to be a trusted source on pet nutrition.

3. Find a friend or family member who has a pet that is not in the best of health. Figure out what type of diet that animal is on. Talk to your contact about how that diet is improperly nourishing his pet despite whatever the packaging promises. Convince your friend that changing the diet, even temporarily, is going to start improving the health of his animal.

4. Monitor the health of the animal as the diet starts to take effect. You will be able to notice that by simply giving the animal the proper nutrition for the way that its body is built, the pet will start to grow happier and healthier. Natural problems will begin to go away, and you can use this as proof that you know what you are talking about.

5. Advertise that you have knowledge about proper pet nutrition and that you will be able to show clients that you are going to give them the best advice possible for helping their pets to grow strong and healthy. Use your own pet as an example of what a proper diet can do. Spread your services by word of mouth and you should soon start pulling in business.
