How to Remove the Air Cleaner From a Roketa Scooter

As one of the largest power sports manufacturers in the United States, Roketa has introduced a line of economical and efficient scooters, ranging in engine sizes from 50cc up to 250cc. Maintaining these inexpensive scooters is straightforward, requiring engine and gear oil changes, as well as inspection and cleaning of the air cleaner, at regular intervals. However, a cursory glance at a Roketa scooter may leave you wondering where exactly is the air cleaner hidden?

Instructions

    • 1

Select a smooth, level workspace and place the scooter on its center stand.

    • 2

Remove the rear cargo box, if equipped, by removing the three mounting bolts from the inner edge of the cargo box carrier. Note that the smaller bolt secures the middle of the carrier to the scooter. Set the cargo box assembly and bolts aside.

    • 3

Remove the seven bolts that secure the left body panel to the frame. Although four of these bolts are easily located, the fifth and sixth bolts are located behind the passenger foot peg and under the tail light, respectively. Pull the tail light trim piece downward gently to access the seventh bolt.

    • 4

Open the seat and remove the two bolts that secure the tail light compartment panel to the frame. Pull the panel out from the compartment and remove the six bolts that secure the inner face of the body panel.

    • 5

Remove the body panel by pulling the portion directly under the seat upward, using gentle force. Continue toward the tail light until you have removed the entire panel from the frame. Set it aside.

    • 6

Locate the air box, the black box that sits directly above the belt housing and rear wheel. Remove the five bolts along the perimeter of the air box cover, then pull the cover off completely.

    • 7

Pull out the foam air cleaner. After cleaning or replacing the air cleaner, reverse the process to re-assemble the scooter.

Tips & Warnings

  • Keep yourself organized to prevent lost parts and to ensure that parts are re-installed in the correct place and order.

  • Take your time. Rushing often creates more problems.

  • If you are not confident that you can complete this project, let a qualified technician do it.

  • Be careful when pulling off the body panel. Exerting too much force will crack the plastic panel easily.
