Instructions

    • 1

Look at the back of your computer before getting started. If there is already a monitor connected to your computer, take note of the port to which it is connected. If there is no monitor installed, look on the back of your PC for a small, roughly square port that is probably blue in color. This is the standard monitor port.

    • 2

Look at the back of the PC for a white rectangular port. This port will probably be located on the right side of the PC and have a slot surrounded by a number of holes. This is the DVI port--it helps your monitor receive digital signals as well as analog.

    • 3

Look at your monitor to see which types of connectors it supports. Some monitors will have only a standard monitor port, while others will have both an analog monitor port and a digital DVI port.

    • 4

Lay the monitor down flat on the table to make it easier to connect the cables. Connect the analog monitor cable and the DVI cable if the computer and monitor both support DVI.

    • 5

Lift the monitor up and place it on top of the computer. Connect the analog monitor port to the back of the computer, then connect the DVI cable if that cable is supported on your PC

    • 6

Turn your PC and monitor on and allow the computer to boot up. Log on to your computer and allow your operating system to choose the optimal screen resolution for your new monitor.
