How to Restore XP to Dell Original Settings
If your Dell computer running Windows XP has serious problems, the best course of action may be to restore the computer back to its original settings. While this drastic action is not always warranted, there are times when restoring your PC back to factory default settings may be the best choice.

Back up all of your personal files before getting started. When you restore your Dell PC back to its factory default settings all of your user data will be erased. Be sure to copy any files you will need to either a thumb drive, a CD, a DVD, an external hard drive or an offsite storage service.

Turn off your PC, then power it back on and wait for the Dell splash screen to appear. Once the Dell splash screen appears press and hold the "Ctrl" and the "F11" keys at the same time.

When the "Dell PC Restore" menu comes up choose "Restore." Confirm the message warning you that all your data is about to be replaced. You will see a progress bar as the restore process gets underway.

Click "Finish" when the restore process has been completed, then log on to the computer and copy your files from your backup device.
