How to Repair a Porcelain Appliance
Have you recently had a porcelain appliance chip, crack, or even break? This is potentially bad news because replacing these objects is not cheap. At first, it may seem like porcelain appliances, such as sinks, toilets and bathtubs, may be difficult to repair due to their hard surfaces and heaviness. Things You'll Need
- Epoxy glue kit
- Paper cup
- Cotton swab
- Porcelain enamel kit
- Small brush
- Tongue depressor
- Large basin
- Dried rice or beans

How to Repair a Porcelain Appliance

For appliances that have chipped, obtain an epoxy glue kit. Blend and stir the two tubes of epoxy glue and place them on the tray that comes with the glue kit. Use a paper cup if a tray is not included. For appliances that have cracked, obtain a porcelain enamel kit.

Use a cotton swab to apply epoxy glue on the back of any chipped pieces. Lay a chipped piece back in its original place and gently press it for approximately one minute.

Cover the appliance's cracks with porcelain enamel by using a small brush. Use a tongue depressor to smooth out the enamel over the surface of the appliance and allow it to dry for at least 24 hours.

For broken porcelain appliances, obtain a large basin and fill with it with dried rice or beans. Place the two broken pieces of porcelain together, attach them with epoxy glue and set them into the basin. While the glue is drying, the rice or beans will make sure the pieces stay attached.

Tips & Warnings
Porcelain enamel kits can be purchased at art supply stores. When applying the enamel on the porcelain, but sure to lay several coats. If only one coat of enamel is applied, it will result in an uneven finish.
