How to Cook an Egg in a Cup

Freshly cooked eggs may seem like a dish you can only make on leisurely mornings, but you actually don't have to stand over a stove top to whip up eggs. You can make them in the microwave in a coffee mug or other microwave-safe cup, without having to hover over them supervising. The egg takes the shape of the bottom of the cup, making it a round shape that fits perfectly onto an English muffin or biscuit for a quick breakfast sandwich. Does this Spark an idea?

  • Coffee mug (about 12 oz.) or other microwave-safe cup
  • 1 egg
  • 1 tbsp. milk
  • Salt

Instructions

      Crack one egg into a coffee mug or other microwave-safe cup. Pour in 1 tbsp. of milk, and then sprinkle the egg with your preferred amount of salt and pepper.

      Poke the egg yolk with a fork to break it. Stir the egg with your fork until all the ingredients are evenly combined into a smooth mixture.

      Place the mug in your microwave. Cook the egg on "high" or "100 percent power" for about 30 to 45 seconds (depending on how strong your microwave is).

      Remove the mug from your microwave and stir the egg lightly with your fork to break up any clumps and redistribute any uncooked liquid. Put the mug back into the microwave and heat it for another 30 to 45 seconds---or until the eggs are completely cooked and no liquid remains.

      Eat the egg immediately out of the mug or insert a spoon underneath the egg and scoop it out in a solid piece. Place it onto a plate, English muffin, toast or bread and serve immediately.
