How to Use Hierarchical Labels in Gmail
Gmail labels are similar in function to folder management found in most email programs, but with a few critical differences. Gmail labels are not exclusive, and you can attach an individual email to multiple folders. This has organizational advantages but also creates a situation where labels are an essential flat structure, eliminating the ability to create sub-folders or sub-labels. Using Firefox or another user script-enabled browser, it is possible to create a hierarchical label system to manage your email.
