Things You'll Need

  • Purchasing a keg is a great idea, whether for a small get-together or for a huge party. It is often assumed that the most difficult part of hosting a party with a keg is tapping it. But tapping the keg is one of the easiest parts, considering you have to transport a full keg, empty it and get it back to the distributor in a certain number of days. With a couple of hints along the way, these five steps will make tapping a keg feel like a no-brainer.

Instructions

    • 1

Line the tap up with the spout on the top of the keg.

    • 2

Place the tap directly over the spout, and turn clockwise until it clicks into place.

    • 3

Press down firmly and push the handle into place, breaking the seal of the keg.

    • 4

If beer starts spraying or foaming out the sides of the tap, pull the handle up, turn the tap counter-clockwise and go back to step one.

    • 5

Holding the lever of the tap over a cup, press down to rid the keg of extra foam. The keg is ready when the beer foam settles quickly after being poured.

Tips & Warnings

  • Do steps one through three in as fluid a motion as possible, as it will lessen chances of having a foamy keg.
