DSLR Raw File Viewer on Windows XP

If you use a DSLR camera to take pictures, you are probably familiar with the different file formats available. I use a Nikon DSLR camera, and I prefer to shoot all of my pictures in the RAW setting because it captures the best digital information for the photo. The only problem is that if you shoot in the RAW Nikon format, most image viewers and even a lot of photography editing programs can not read the files (Photoshop CS4 will). To fix this, you can download a simple image viewer for Windows XP that will allow you to view your files. This is how you do it!

Once the software downloads to your desktop, install it. This will update your image viewer to allow you to actually view RAW files from DSLR cameras. Works great with Nikon and Cannon.

Restart your computer to complete the install and update your Windows XP program.

Now simply insert your memory card from your DSLR camera into your camera or tether your DSLR camera to your computer and you can browse the images on your camera or card just like you normally would browse JPEGS or TIFF files.

TIP: When you view your file, you can save the image that you are viewing as a JPEG right out of the viewer if you want to quickly send it to someone or edit it without the hassle of converting it to a TIFF or JPEG.
