How to Anchor a Pergola to the Fascia
A pergola is a versatile structure that has many applications in the garden. - Ladder
- Pergola rafter
- Joist anchor
- 19 wood screws
- Hurricane rafter clip
- Drill
- Philips screwdriver bit

Prop one end of your first pergola rafter onto the top of the beam on the free-standing side of the pergola.

Prop a ladder against the side of your house, and climb it. Use your vantage point to lift the other end of your pergola rafter in place.

Attach an angled joist anchor to the end of your pergola rafter by screwing wood screws through the screw holes in the joist anchor and into the wood. One side of the joist anchor should be flush with your rafter and the other side should be flush with the fascia board.

Attach the other side of the angled joist anchor to the fascia board by screwing wood screws through the screw holes in the anchor and into the fascia board.

When the rafter is secure to the fascia board, attach the rafter's other end to the free-standing beam using a hurricane rafter clip and the remaining nine wood screws.

Repeat steps 1 through 5 for each rafter on the top of your pergola.
