How to Customize Auto Interiors
As the place you probably spend a lot of your time, your car's interior is an important part of your life. Customizing the interior is a great way to make it even more habitable for the daily commute. Or maybe you have a show car that you want to stand out from the crowd. Whatever the reason, customizing your automobile's interior is a satisfying project.

1
Install an aftermarket steering wheel. Steering wheel adapters are available for most vehicles. Simply remove your old wheel by taking off the nut that holds it on and then install the adapter and new wheel.
-
2
Install a new alloy shift knob, leather shift boot and drilled alloy pedals to complement your new wheel. Shift knobs either screw onto the shift lever or are held on with set screws. Alloy pedals can be bolted in by drilling holes in the stock pedals or can be clamped on.

Replace the original floor mats with custom mats that have the manufacturer's logo embossed on them. You can also replace the carpeting with a custom-colored carpet or have a custom carpet made by an upholstery shop, using the existing carpet as a template. Glue the carpeting down with carpet adhesive.

4
Remove the stock seats and install a set of aftermarket bucket seats (see Resources 2). This is another popular modification that is also relatively easy to accomplish. Simply unbolt your stock seats, usually held in with four large bolts, and then install the new seats and adapters.

5
Install a roll bar. If you are serious about driving, installing a roll bar in the back seat area of your vehicle is a great addition. Not only does it look cool, but it is a desirable safety feature. This usually requires that holes be drilled in the chassis and should be installed by a professional shop.
-
6
Replace the door panels and headliner with custom panels (see Resources 3). Installing a set of two-tone or color coded interior panels is another great upgrade. Most door panels can simply be pulled off of the door and are retained with clips. Headliners are more complicated to install and often require the removal of the front and rear windows. This should be done by a professional shop.

7
Upgrade the trim around the stereo, gauge cluster and other areas with carbon fiber or aluminum trim. Most factory trim is relatively cheap-looking to keep costs down, so replacing it with a more high-end material is another great customizing trick.
