How To Gain Administrator Access on Compaq Computers

Windows has a log-in system where you can restrict the access of different users and deny them certain programs or functions. If you are looking to safeguard your computer, or simply want to use your computer to its full potential, you will want administrative access. By following several simple steps you will be able to set administrative access to your specific profile with ease.

Things You'll Need

• Compaq computer
• Windows operating system

Instructions

1. Turn on your Compaq computer and wait for it to fully start up.

2. Log in to Windows with the administrator account.

3. Access your control panel. You can do this by selecting "Start" in the bottom left corner of your screen and selecting "Control Panel." You can also access the Control Panel by clicking on the "Start" button and selecting "Run." This will open a DOS prompt; once open type in "Control Panel."

4. When your control panel folder has opened, double click on the "User Accounts" icon.

5. Select the "Change an Account" option, then locate and select your account.

6. Select "Change an Account Type" and add administrative access for your profile. You may also choose to remove the access of other users at this time. If you would like to later set additional privileges, follow these instructions and add access for a user of your choosing.
