How to Make Moisturizing Aloe and Peppermint Shaving Cream

Moisturizing aloe and peppermint shaving cream is a simple, natural alternative to the expensive store-bought shaving creams that are often loaded with unnecessary and potentially harmful additives and preservatives. This homemade shaving cream works just as well as any commercial cream, although it will not lather the way commercial shaving creams do. Aloe and peppermint shaving cream will keep for about one month, and the recipe is easily doubled for more uses or to give as gifts.

Things You'll Need

• ½ cup distilled water
• 1 tsp. borax powder
• 1/3 cup coconut oil
• 1 tbsp. liquid lanolin
• 1 tbsp. grated beeswax
• 2 tbsp. almond oil
• 15 drops peppermint essential oil
• 1/3 cup aloe vera gel

Instructions

1. Pour the distilled water into a small saucepan and bring to a boil. Add the borax powder and simmer until dissolved, about three to four minutes.

2. Combine the coconut oil, liquid lanolin, beeswax and almond oil in a second saucepan. Heat over medium heat until the beeswax has melted, stirring regularly. Remove the saucepan from the heat.

3. Pour the contents of the saucepan with the borax mixture into the second saucepan, stirring constantly. Stir until the mixture has cooled to room temperature.

4. Stir in the peppermint essential oil with a wooden spoon or disposable stirrer.

5. Add the aloe vera gel and stir with a wire whisk to combine. Transfer the final mixture to a plastic bottle with a squeeze top or to a wide-mouthed glass jar. Store in a dark, cool place between uses.

Tips & Warnings

• To use, wet the face with warm water. Let the excess water drip off and put a small amount of shaving cream in the palm of your hand and put it on your face. Shave normally.
