How to Fold Gift Boxes
The packaging of a gift is the first thing the gift's recipient will see, which is why it is important to put effort into the packaging of your gift. You can find all kinds of fancy wrapping papers, gift bags, ribbons and tags at a card store that are sure to make the gift you give look spectacular as well as put a dent in your wallet. One inexpensive way you can package a small- to medium-size gift in a personal and impressive way is to fold your own gift box using decorative paper.

Take the piece of card stock you want to use for the bottom of your box. Fold it diagonally until each edge of the top layer of paper is 1/4 of an inch from the corresponding edge of the bottom layer of paper. Crease the fold and trim the extra 1/4 of an inch of paper from the bottom layer of the folded paper.

Lay your paper in front of you so that it is a diamond not a square.

Fold the bottom point of the diamond up to the top point and crease your paper.

Fold the right point of your triangle over to the left point of your triangle and crease the paper. Now, undo the folds you have made and make sure the paper is back in the diamond position.

Fold each point of the diamond in to the center of the diamond, where the two creases that you made intersect. Crease each of these folds and leave them in place.

Fold the left side and right edges of the square, which you now have in front of you, in to the center of the square and crease the folds. Unfold the sides of your square and repeat this process with the top and bottom edges of the square.

Unfold your whole piece of paper and lay it back in the diamond position. Find the four squares in the center of your diamond. Cut along the same creases that make the left and right sides of this square from the edge of your diamond up to the perimeter of this square. This means that you will be making four cuts total, two from the bottom left and right edges of your diamond up, and two from the top left and right edges of your diamond down.

Take the the triangle shapes flap that you just created on the left side of your diamond and fold the point of that triangle into the center of the diamond. Repeat this with the flap on the right side of your diamond. Fold both the left and right sides straight up right along the crease you cut.

Fold the tabs on each end of the sides that you just folded up, in at a 90-degree angle from the sides you erected. Use a small spot of glue on the bottom of your box to hold the triangle points, which you should now see there, in place.

Fold the bottom flap of your box up and over the tabs of the left and right side and push it into place so that you have a flat wall of your box. Again, use a small bit of glue to hold this in place to the bottom of your box. Repeat this process with the top flap of your box.

Repeat the whole folding process with your other piece of card stock to complete the lid of your box.

Tips & Warnings
Take your time with this process. If you rush through it, your gift box may appear sloppy.
