How to Create a Restore Disk on a Dell Laptop

Creating a set of recovery disks is an essential step to backing up the files on your Dell laptop. Because of the increasing threat of spyware and viruses, you will want the ability to wipe your computer clean and start over. Recovery disks have your computer's operating system and all of the basic drivers required for your computer to function. By following several instructions, you will be able to create recovery disks for your Dell laptop with ease.

Things You'll Need

• Dell laptop.
• Blank CDs

Instructions

1. Turn on your Dell laptop, and wait for it to boot up.

2. Click on the "Start" button at the bottom left corner of your screen.

3. Select "Dell Accessories" folder from the list of programs.

4. Click on "Dell OS Recovery CD," and click "OK." Read and accept the Dell licensing agreement.

5. Click on the "next" button, and enter a blank CD in to your CD-ROM drive. The recovery-disk process will now begin.

6. Follow the program's instructions for entering CDs until the process completes. When you see a "congratulations" message on your screen, remove the last CD from your CD-ROM drive, and click the "Finish" button.

Tips & Warnings

• Make sure that you label each CD so you know in order in which they were burned. When attempting a system recovery, you will need to enter the disks in the correct order.

• You will only be allowed to burn one set of recovery disks, so make sure that you do not lose them.
