Instructions

    • 1

Use nail polish remover to remove any traces of nail polish or other debris from your fingernails.

    • 2

Clip your nails with nail clippers to remove the yellow portion that has grown beyond your nail bed.

    • 3

Visit your doctor to make sure that you do not have a nail fungus. While yellow nails can be caused by wearing nail polish without a base coat or by smoking, they can also be caused by fungal infections that require special medication. If you have a fungal infection, be sure to use the medicine prescribed by your doctor, exactly as directed.

    • 4

Fill your small glass dish one-third full of baking soda.

    • 5

Use your medicine dropper to slowly add hydrogen peroxide to the baking soda, stirring constantly until a thick paste is made.

    • 6

Dip a cotton swab into the paste and then apply the paste to each nail. It should be applied thick enough that your nails are no longer visible.

    • 7

Allow the paste to remain on your nails for four minutes and then rinse your hands thoroughly.

    • 8

Buff your nails with a nail buffer and then rinse them once more.

    • 9

Apply a protective base coat to your nails in order to protect them from the substance or activity that caused the yellowing. Apply your normal nail polish on top of this.

    • 10

Repeat the peroxide and baking soda paste treatment weekly, clipping any yellowed nail portions that may have grown out, if applicable. Once your damaged nails have completely grown out and no yellow is visible, you can cease the peroxide treatment and care for your nails normally, remembering to always apply a protective base coat to prevent future yellowing.
