1
Measure the length and width of your window. Add roughly 6 inches to all four sides of the window to ensure that your curtains adequately cover the entire window area and not just the glass portion.
-
2
Multiply your width measurement by three to determine the width of fabric you'll need to cover your window and to achieve an attractive fullness to the fabric.
-
-
3
Add 4 inches to your length measurement to account for the bottom seam and the top pocket where the cafe rod will run.
-
4
Mark out the measurements on your fabric with tailor's chalk and cut out your material. If your fabric is not wide enough, you can use several pieces of fabric to achieve the proper fullness on your window.
-
5
Pin an inch-wide seam on the sides and bottom of your material, then set the seam by pressing it with an iron.
-
6
Pin a seam with a 2-inch opening at the top and iron the seam to set it. This is where your cafe rod will go once your curtains are completed.
-
7
Sew the seams on your sewing machine, using a straight stitch and thread that matches your fabric.
-
8
Mount the cafe rod above your window, according to the manufacturer's directions. Normally you'll screw brackets into the wall, then the cafe rod will sit on the brackets.
-
9
Slide the cafe rod through the opening at the top of your curtains, then place the rod and curtains onto the mounted wall brackets.
