How to Install an RV Accumulator Tank

Most RV owners like to think of their RV as a home away from home. RVs usually have most of the conveniences of a house, only on a smaller scale. One convenience almost every RV has is running water. RV water system pressure is delivered by a pump when an RV is using internal water. These pumps can be noisy. One way to reduce this noise is to install an accumulator. These can be purchased from an RV supply store and are easy to install.

Instructions

    • 1

Remove the accumulator and the mounting hardware from the packaging. Inventory all parts to make sure that everything has been included.

    • 2

Turn off the water pump switch in your RV. Locate the RV water pump. Water pumps are usually located under the dining room seating or under the sink. Choose an open space for the RV accumulator near the RV water pump. Use a screwdriver and the two screws to tightly install the accumulator in this location.

    • 3

Locate the two fittings that were included with the accumulator. Tightly screw these fittings onto the two openings on the accumulator.

    • 4

Locate the longest line flowing in to or out of the water pump. Cut this line and slide a hose clamp over each cut end.

    • 5

Place a cut end of hose on a fitting that was screwed on to the accumulator. Choose either fitting, as which hose goes on which fitting is unimportant. Slide the hose clamp up over the hose where it is attached to the fitting. Tighten the clamp with a screwdriver.

    • 6

Place the other cut end of hose on the remaining fitting. Slide up the clamp and tighten it in the same manner.

    • 7

Turn on the water pump switch. Open a sink or bathroom faucet. Check for leaks at the connections to the accumulator. If there are any leaks, then tighten the hose clamps. The accumulator is now successfully installed.

Tips & Warnings

  • If the cut hose doesn't reach the accumulator fittings, then purchase additional hose and clamps at an RV parts store.
