How to Apply Weed & Feed in the Fall
"Weed and feed" is a common term for lawn products containing both fertilizer and herbicide. These products encourage healthy grass growth while at the same time eliminating broadleaf weeds. The weeds most frequently grow in spring and fall, so manufacturers recommend applying the product at those times of year for best results. Additionally, weed and feed works best when temperatures are not too hot or too cold, making spring and fall a natural choice. Does this Spark an idea?
Instructions

1
Mow your lawn. Wait two or three days after mowing to apply the weed and feed.
-
2
Estimate the area of your lawn if you do not know the actual size. Coverage specifications are provided in square feet on the bags of weed and feed.
-
-
3
Choose a day that is not over 85° F to apply weed and feed. Also choose a day when it is not supposed to rain for at least 48 hours.
-
4
Use a sprinkler to water the lawn just enough so the grass is wet. You can skip this step if it has rained recently and the grass is already wet. The herbicide granules must adhere to the weeds to eliminate them.
-
5
Change the drop spreader settings if necessary, according to the directions on the bag. Load the spreader on the driveway or another area where a spill will not affect your lawn.
-
6
Walk around the perimeter of the lawn one time spreading weed and feed. Then walk back and forth in rows within the area of those boundaries to finish applying the product.
-
7
Wait at least 48 hours to water your lawn after applying weed and feed.

Tips & Warnings

Avoid getting weed and feed on flowers or other ornamental plants, or on vegetable plants.
Do not plant grass seed for at least four weeks, because weed and feed prevents seed germination.
