How to Make Asian Paper Fans
Round Chinese fans are an easy craft simple enough for young children to make with a little supervision. While these crafts are fun for kids, they can also be created by adults and embellished with stickers and glitter or painted to achieve sophisticated-looking fans. Try making a fan out of scrap paper to learn the basic process before you begin to fold an intricate painting or design.

Instructions

1
Cut a piece of fax paper approximately 3-feet long and 8-inches wide. Fax paper is available at office supply stores and comes in long rolls of paper.
-
2
Decorate the paper using markers, crayons or colored pencils.
-
-
3
Pleat the paper by folding it back and forth to create 1/2-inch wide pleats along the entire length of the paper.
-
4
Glue a Popsicle stick to each short end of the paper. Position the sticks, so they stick out the top of the paper approximately 3/4-inch.
-
5
Push the popsicle sticks together with the fan folded along the pleats between them. Wrap clear tape around the bottom of the paper where it extends beyond the popsicle sticks.
-
6
Pull the popsicle sticks apart and fold them down around the taped area until they meet to open the circular Chinese fan.
