How to Download a Google Map to a Garmin GPS

Garmin is a leading manufacturer of GPS units. Despite the fact that your unit shows you where you are, tells you where you are going, and gives you directions on how to get there, you might want to use Google Maps. You might be interested in downloading or saving a Google Map to your GPS unit.

Things You'll Need

• Garmin GPS device
• Computer
• USB cable

Instructions

1. Connect your Garmin GPS device to your PC. You will need to do this later, so you might as well do it before you get started

2. Open Google Maps on your computer.

3. Use the map to do a search. You can find an address, a business, a landmark and more.

4. Once you found what Google Map you'd like to add to your GPS device, look up towards the right-hand corner of the screen. Just above the map, you will see a link that says "Send." Click send.

5. At this time, a pop-up window will appear on your computer screen. Right now, "email" is highlighted. What you want to do is click on "GPS."

6. Enter in the additional information if necessary, such as notes and phone number.

7. Click to send.

• Select your GPS brand, which is Garmin.

• If you followed the above mentioned steps, your Google Map will be saved and it will appear on your GPS unit. If you received an error message, the only reason was that your unit was not connected to your computer via the USB cable. If you have yet to connect your device, check it now.
