How to Make Lemon Simple Syrup

Lemon simple syrup is very easy to make with just a few commonly found ingredients, and it can help add essential flavor and sweetness to a large variety of both alcoholic cocktails and alcohol-free drinks. Lemon simple syrup will keep for about two weeks if stored in an airtight container and kept in the refrigerator between uses. This recipe makes about five cups, though it is easily doubled or tripled for a large party or bar.

Things You'll Need

• 4 cups water
• 2 cups sugar
• 1 cup freshly-squeezed lemon juice

Instructions

1. Combine the water and sugar in a large saucepan and heat over medium heat, stirring regularly until the sugar dissolves.

2. Bring the mixture to a boil and cook for one minute. Remove the saucepan from heat and let it rest until it cools to room temperature.

3. Add the lemon juice and stir with a wooden spoon or disposable stirrer.

4. Transfer the lemon simple syrup to a sterilized glass bottle. Store the simple syrup in the refrigerator between uses.
