How to Use a Bread Baking Mold

Bread-baking molds have been traditionally used to give breads decorative designs and shapes, but recently bread-baking molds have taken on a number of different uses. The range of shapes available for bread molds has greatly increased, and many molds also feature a non-stick surface. Other molds are designed so that the finished bread is in the shape of a bread bowl, used for serving soups.       Purchase a bread mold from your local baking supply or craft store, or from a specialty retailer. Molds come in a wide range of materials, including aluminum, clay and silicone.

      Preheat your oven to the temperature required in your recipe. Ensure that you are using a mold that can withstand the temperature your recipe suggests.

      Butter and flour the interior of your baking mold, or use a nonstick cooking spray. This will not be necessary if you are using a silicone bread-baking mold.

      Prepare and knead your bread dough as instructed by your recipe. In addition to breads, molds can be used for cakes--this works especially well with silicone baking molds.

      Place your bread dough into the baking mold. If you are using a decorative mold, gently press the dough onto the mold's ridges to ensure that the finished bread will be marked with the mold's design.

      Allow your bread to cool for at least 10 minutes in its mold, and then carefully turn the mold over to remove the bread. If you are using a silicone mold, you may remove the bread immediately.
