1. Choose the web site you would like to use to make your birthday card There are many that offer free birthday cards,. Look for the ones that say they are free. Some ideas include 123Greetings.com, BirthdayCards.com, eGreetings.com. Other sites, such as BlueMountain.com and Hallmark.com, charge a fee or require membership.

2. Browse the birthday cards until you find one you like. Most greeting card sites have their cards in categories. Check the menu, which is usually to the left or the top of the page, for the "Birthday" category. Click on this category and browse the cards.

3. Customize your card. After selecting a card, you will have some choices to make, such as what music to play and what the text should say. Some cards have two sections of text. One is a header which is where your slogan will go, such as "Happy Birthday" or "I'm Thinking of You!" Occasionally, this part is already filled in by the site. The next section is where you type what you want to say. This could be long or short. When you are finished customizing your card, click on "Finish" or "Next".
