How to Tie Down Outdoor Sheds
High winds can cause serious damage to your shed if it is lifted off the foundation and blown into a house or car. Many cities and towns have local building codes that require you to install tie-down anchors and cables to your shed. The tie-down kit should be available where you purchased your shed, or you can buy one at most lumber yards. Does this Spark an idea?
Things You'll Need
- Safety glasses
- Safety gloves
- Tie-down anchors
- Crow bar
- Hammer
- Adjustable wrench

Put on safety glasses and gloves.

Screw in an anchor at an angle away from the shed at each corner.

Fish a piece of wire cable from one corner of the shed between the shed deck and the 4-inch-by-4-inch pressure-treated skids to the opposite corner, if your shed is a skid-mounted shed. Do this for both ends of the shed.

Stretch the wire over the top of the shed and attach to anchors if your shed doesn't have skids skids. Do this for both ends of the shed.

Attach the cable wires to the anchors using supplied hardware.

Tips & Warnings
Soak the ground the day before installing the anchors if your soil is hard and dry.
Use a crow bar to help turn the anchor into the ground. A hammer is useful to start the anchors.
Be careful handling and cutting the cable wire as it is very sharp.
