How to Decode With yEnc
Files transmitted to Usenet must be encoded or the files become corrupted and unreadable. Usually the news reader or email program automatically encodes and decodes binary attachments. Since the early 2000s, newsgroup participants have used yEnc to encode files due to the smaller file size of yEnc-encoded files when compared with other encoders, such as UUencoder. There are dozens of yEnc decoders, including free and commercial programs. Likewise, there are many different news readers and email clients, some free and others commercial. The specific yEnc decoder plug-in, OeyEnc, can be used with Outlook Express/Windows Mail.

Tips & Warnings
Add a Usenet server by clicking on "Tools" in the menu bar, then "Accounts."
Subscribe to commonly read newsgroups. You must load all newsgroups on a server before subscribing to a newsgroup.
Download a news reader with a built-in decoder to simplify yEnc-decoding.
Find binary attachments in the "alt.binaries" newsgroups. Many free Usenet servers do not offer the "binaries" groups, so you might have to subscribe to a commercial Usenet server to download and decode yEnc files.
Newsgroups may contain files that infringe copyright. Downloading and decoding these files is illegal.
