How to Install Landscape Filter Cloth
Every flower garden will have weeds growing in them. Weeding is one of the most labor intensive, regular jobs of any gardening experience. In order to prevent as many weeds as possible and still keep the proper drainage in your garden you will need to install landscape filter cloth under your garden. Installation of this barrier takes only a few minutes, a couple of tools, and a bit of know how so that your new garden will remain virtually weed free allowing your plants to take root and thrive. Things You'll Need
- Landscape filter cloth
- Razor knife
- Leather work gloves
- Metal push stakes
- Shovel
- Gravel

Dig out the turf in the area of your new garden. Push the shovel into the sod cutting out a circle that you can pry up and discard into your compost. Dig away all of the turf from the entire garden area.

Shovel gravel onto the exposed garden area in a 2 inch layer. Smooth the layer of gravel with your gloved hands so that the entire gravel bed is fairly even.

Roll out your filter cloth across the gravel. Cut the filter cloth with your razor knife.

Press a metal stake through each corner of the cloth and into the ground below. Push the stakes into the ground until the angled ends are holding the cloth firmly to the ground.

Cover the entire cloth with a 1 inch layer of gravel with your shovel. Smooth the gravel with your gloved hands.

Tips & Warnings
The gravel will allow for good drainage once the garden is complete.
Add soil and plants as well as a border after the last layer of gravel is placed.
Razor knives pose a cut and puncture hazard. Always use caution and common sense when using knives.
