How to Open Spreadsheets From Firefox
There are a few different browsers that you can use, and the one you utilize the most will often come down to your personal taste. Firefox has become popular because users like the sophisticated design it offers over others. But one problem with Firefox is that Windows operating systems will automatically default to Internet Explorer, making it a problem when you want to open spreadsheet links found in word-processing or Excel documents. To get over this, you will need to change some of your registry associations.

1
Launch My Computer off the desktop and activate the Tools tab. From here, go into File Options and then choose File tabs. This will help you set your computer so that Firefox is your default when opening links from Internet-based applications, like your e-mail.
-
2
Search the options available until you find "URL: Hypertext Transfer Protocol." Highlight this option if it is not already highlighted. Select the "Advanced" option under this menu to allow you to look into the exact procedures that this task takes.

-
3
Select "Open" under the Actions tab. Unselect the "Use DDE" option and instead click on "Browse." Search your system until you find the "Firefox.exe" command and choose that one. This should set it so that Firefox is your immediate choice when opening links from the Internet. This will be the first step to making Firefox the default browser.
-
4
Back up your registry (If you are unfamiliar with this process, please see the link in the resource section), as you are about to enter it to make some changes, and if you accidentally screw up, you do not want to ruin your entire computer. This will help to ensure the safety of your machine while you are altering it.
-
5
Locate HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Office\9.0\Common\ and create a subkey. Name it "Internet." This will be needed if the Internet subkey does not already exist.
-
6
Create or edit a new DWORD value so that "0" is now set to "1." If you achieve this, after changing your system so that Firefox will immediately open files, you should be able to make any Excel program open spreadsheets within Firefox instead of Internet Explorer.
-
7
Test the program out by opening links to see whether the spreadsheets are opening in Firefox instead of Explorer.
