How to Download New Mouse Pointers

Downloading new mouse pointers is a creative way to change your default mouse pointer to something different that is not already factory-installed on your computer. You can change your mouse pointer to suit your personality, interests or theme of your desktop. Mouse pointers can range from arrows that are different colors, shapes and sizes, to miniature pictures. They can even be animated pictures. There are sites on the Internet where you can download new mouse pointers.

      Perform a search on the Internet with Google or another search engine to find sites that offer mouse pointers. There are many sites at your disposal but one in particular that offers thousands of mouse pointers (that are also free) is Cursor Mania. Navigate to www.cursormania.com in your browser.

      Look for the two boxes regarding making My Web Search your default search engine and homepage. If you do not wish to change those, uncheck the boxes. Click the icon that says "Click Here to Start." You will receive a window pop-up prompting you to save the file. Click the "Save File" button. Choose a location to save the file at; your desktop is the easiest place to access it. Click "Save."

      Find the program on your desktop named "cursors.exe." Double click to open it. A window will pop up asking you if you want the program to make changes to your computer. Click "Yes." Wait a few moments while the program installs. After the program has been installed you will receive a box that pops up informing you it is finished and to restart your browser. Click "OK," exit out of your browser and reopen it.

      Look near the toolbars on your browser. You should now see that Cursor Mania has been installed. Click the button (it will have a blue mouse pointer next to it) and a window with a list of mouse pointers for you to use will pop up.

      Review the list of mouse pointers and choose one you want to use. The cursors are provided to you as categories so you can easily sort through them. Once you have found one you like, click to make it your default mouse pointer. Click the "X" to exit out of the Cursor Mania screen.

Tips & Warnings

  • To go back to your default mouse pointer, open Cursor Mania again from your toolbar and find "Default" under the list of cursor categories. Click "Click here" underneath "To return to your default cursor."

  • Be wary of sites offering new mouse pointers or cursors to download. Only use trusted sites. If the site has a lot of pop-up advertisements you could risk installing spyware or viruses on your computer.
