How to Hang a Basketball Goal Backboard

Installing a basketball backboard is almost always the last step of putting up a home basketball court. Sliding the backboard onto a metal pole should be fairly easy, but if the preceding steps are not done right, it will make hanging a backboard a very frustrating experience. The pole has to be hung straight and the concrete you used must be completely set before you put up the backboard.

Secure the top half of the basketball pole to the bottom half of the pole. The basketball pole that supports your basket and backboard comes in two pieces. The bottom half is installed as the concrete hardens. The top half will be slid over the bottom half after the concrete is completely dry. When the top half of the pole is installed, it will snap in place and you should hear a click.

Attach the backboard to the top half of the basketball pole. You will have to climb the ladder to do so and a friend or family member will have to assist you by handing you the backboard once you are at the spot on the ladder at which you need to be to attach it to the pole. The backboard should slide on to the correct place on the pole and there will be two or three aluminum rings to tighten that will secure the backboard to the pole. The process of placing the backboard on the pole and tightening the rings should take about 15 minutes.

Secure the rim to the backboard. There will be four holes on the base of the rim and a spot on the backboard marked where it should be attached. Line the rim up with that spot, mark the holes with a pencil and then drill four holes. Attach the rim to the backboard with the nuts and bolts that are provided. Tighten the nuts with a wrench.

Raise the backboard to the desired height. Nearly all basketball backboards sold for home use are adjustable. They can be set at any height from 6 to 10 feet. Attach the net to the rim and you are ready to play.
