How to Use Plastic Lawn Edging
Add detail or a finished look to a flower bed or other landscaping areas of your yard with plastic yard edging. Plastic yard edging, when installed, acts as a divider that separates one area of your yard from another. Things You'll Need
- Spade
- Measuring tape
- Plastic edging
- Utility knife
- Plastic connectors
- Plastic spikes
- Work gloves
- Garden hose

Dig a 6-to-8-inch-deep trench around a flower bed, tree or other location where you want to install the plastic lawn edging: Place a spade shovel on the ground and step on it with your foot to force it into the ground. Repeat along the entire length where you want to install the edging.

Measure the length of the area for the edging with a tape measure.

Transfer the measurements to the plastic edging and cut it to size with a utility knife.

Place the edging in the trench. The thin part on the bottom of the edging goes into the trench.

Insert plastic connectors onto the ends of the edging. Connect two pieces together to make a longer sections.

Insert plastic spikes onto the flat part of the edging to secure it to the ground. Push the sharp tip into the side of the edging and into the ground.

Pull in loose dirt around the inside of the edging and stamp it down using your foot.

Fill the outside gap between the edging and the lawn with loose dirt.

Spray down the edging lightly with water from a garden hose to complete the project.

Tips & Warnings
Wear work gloves to protect your hands from sharp corners when installing the edging.
Do not push the plastic connector too far into the edging or you will not be able to connect the other piece.
