How to Remove the Tailgate on an F150

Trucks are made for hauling around large or heavy items. Transporting unusually large items in the bed of a truck at times can be a cumbersome task. The Ford F150 is one of the most popular models of truck sold in the United States of the many models that are on the roads today. Removing the tailgate for transporting larger items on a ford F150 has been made into a relatively simple process, without requiring the use of any tools.

Instructions

    • 1

Open the tailgate and let it rest flat in its open position. The tailgate should be opened by pulling upward on the rear latch in the center of the tailgate.

    • 2

Locate the tailgate support cables on both sides of the tailgate. These cables secure the tailgate to the trucks bed.

    • 3

Lift the tailgate slightly to release slack in the support cables. Press down on the silver hinge release on the tip of the cables connecting point on the bed.

    • 4

Slide the hinge off while depressing the hinge release. Repeat for the other side while securely holding the tailgate.

    • 5

Lift upward and pull the tailgate off of the truck. The tailgate will be heavy, so hold it securely or get the help of a partner to avoid dropping the tailgate.
