How to Control Multiple Mouse Pointers

The ability to use multiple mice on one computer is not naturally supported by most operating systems. Some computers may allow you to connect and use one PS/2 mouse and one USB mouse, but if both of your mice are USB, or if you want to use more than two mice at a time, this method is not viable.

In order to use multiple mice, the simplest way is to use a special software designed to allow computers to use more than one pointing device at a time.

Instructions

    • 1

Check all mice to confirm they work properly. Plug in each mouse separately. Your OS should detect each device. If necessary, install any software that came with your mouse or mice.

    • 2

Confirm all mice use USB technology. If one or all of your mice are PS/2, you may need to upgrade to USB, since some software may not recognize multiple PS/2 devices. Unlike USB, which uses a flat connector, PS/2 connectors are round.

    • 3

Connect all of the mice to your computer. If you do not have enough USB ports available, connect a USB hub to add additional slots.

    • 4

Download, install and run a program that enables the use of multiple mice, such as TeamPlayer. Follow the program's on-screen instructions to properly install and activate the software. You may be prompted to restart following installation.

    • 5

Double-click the program's icon. If you are using TeamPlayer, the multiple mouse cursors should automatically appear. Extra mice are designated by different colors.

    • 6

Click the left mouse button to switch between mice.

Tips & Warnings

  • While most newer computer models may be able to process multiple mice, some older BIOS may not be able to.
