How to apply online for a Walmart job

Walmart is one of the world's largest companies and offers careers through its Walmart and Sams Club outlets. Career positions are available in a wide variety of positions including retail sales, pharmacy and optometry. If you want to research the job opportunities with Walmart or Sams Club, you can do this online. After you have read the article, click on the active link at the end of the article under Resources to get started with your application process.

      When you go to the Careers page of Walmart (link at bottom of article), you will see the words Search for Available Positions in blue lettering under Apply for a Career. Click on the words In Your Local Area. This will bring up another page with the title Welcome to the Hiring Center. Click on the green Apply Now or Espanol button. This will take you to another page where you will be expected to read, understand and agree to the Equal Opportunity Employer statement. If you are disabled, you are advised to request an accommodation and/or visit your nearest Walmart store. If you need to apply in person, you will need to click on the green exit button on this page. If you agree to the statement, click on the green I Agree button.

      The next page contains another statement noting that Walmart is committed to maintain an alcohol/drug-free workplace and that you consent to a drug screening test as a part of the hiring process. If you understand and agree, you need to click on the I Agree button. If not, click on the green Exit button.

      The next page contains applicant disclaimers for certain States. You are expected to read, understand and agree to the statements by either clicking on the green I Agree button or the green Exit button.

      The next page has two options, an Applicant Login or Register Now. Use the Login area if you are returning to add to or edit your application. Click on the green Create Login button under the blue Register Now button if you are applying for the first time. To create your Login, type in a user name of 7 to 11 characters), then choose a password (should be 7 to 11 characters and have numbers, capital and non-capital letters). You will then need to confirm your chosen password by retyping it.

      The next page that appears will be a page that creates questions and answers for you if you forgot your login name and password. There are five questions and answers to create on this page, including how many brothers and sisters you have, what your favorite fruit is, your favorite month of the year and others. Press the green Next button to go to the next page. Don't forget to jot down your answers to the questions in a safe place!

      You will then be redirected to the login page. Type in your ID and password and click the green Login button. That will take you to a page where you will need to type in your Social Security Number and confirm it by retyping it and clicking the green Next button. Your Social Security number is encrypted, so it is totally safe.

      The next page will be a page for you to create a four digit PIN number. You are advised to not use consecutive numbers like 1111, or 2222. Then press the green Next button which will take you to a page where it asks your gender. However, you do not need to enter this information if you do not want to. The next page asks your Ethnic Group. You can opt to check the box that has I do not wish to enter voluntary self-identification EEOC information if you prefer on each of these pages.

      The next page asks if you can submit documentation verifying your identify and your legal right to work in the U.S. Click on the green Yes button which will bring up the Area of Interest page.

      The Area of Interest Page will ask you to check either Walmart, Sam's Club, or Walmart logistics. Press the green Next button and you will be taken to a page where you can either enter your City and Stage or ZIP code. Then select a search radius (in miles). I would suggest that you select at least a 20 mile search radius. This will bring up more store locations for you, thereby increasing your chances of being hired. I selected 20 miles and 13 stores were listed. At the top of the page you will see the words: Please choose all locations of interest from the below list. Then click the green Next button.

      The next page will ask you to choose the type of position you are applying for. Choose as many or as few as you would like. The choices include professional, supervisor and lead, hourly, office and loss prevention and management. Each of the choices then have separate pages for you to complete. I would advise that you apply for a position in each of the major choices if you feel you can qualify.

      If you start with the hourly choice, you will then be asked to fill in your personal information, including name, street address, zip code and e-mail address. This will be page two of eight pages of personal information, including education, experience and references.

      If you choose to apply for more than one position, you will need to repeat the process for each one.

Tips & Warnings

  • Be sure to double check your spelling, your contact and reference information before submitting. Take your time, it will make a better impression if you make sure you have not made any mistakes. The overall process is straight forward and easy to follow. Once submitted, expect to be contacted by telephone or e-mail within ten to fourteen days. If you are not contacted, why not visit your local Walmart to inquire? Cannot hurt.
