How to Block Someone on Facebook

As can happen in any large public group, you occasionally run into someone on Facebook who is a nuisance on the site. The best way to deal with a Facebook friend who has crossed the boundaries of polite social interaction is to block her from seeing your profile or having any contact with you on the site. Facebook doesn't notify an individual when she is blocked, but your name disappears from her friend list, so if she is paying attention, she'll notice.

Instructions

    • 1

Log in to your Facebook account.

    • 2

Select the "Account" menu at the upper right corner of the Facebook page. In the drop-down menu, click on "Privacy Settings."

    • 3

Scroll to the bottom of the page and click on "Manage Block Lists."

    • 4

Type the name or email address of an individual into the "Block users" section to immediately block him from interacting with you on Facebook. He will no longer be able to see your profile or contact you.

Tips & Warnings

  • You can also block a friend by clicking on her name in your news feed to go to her profile. At the bottom of the left column, click "Report/Block."

  • Blocking does not affect apps and games you may both use or groups you both participate in.
