How to Submit a Pre-Application Grant Proposal

Some organizations allow you to submit a pre-application funding proposal for your grant request.

Government grants and foundation grants have helped people receive needed funds to achieve goals. However, valuable time can be wasted applying for grants for which your organization has no chance of qualifying. Some organizations allow you to submit a pre-application proposal that is generally one page, takes less time and will give you an idea of whether it is worth submitting something more detailed.

Instructions

1. Find the right grant funding source and compile your research for the letter. Start by providing general information about your organization in the cover letter. Include your address and contact information.

2. Provide a description of the program for which you are seeking funding. Include your anticipated grant request. Note other sources of funding.

3. You can then send the granting organization a form known as a funder data sheet and have them fill out the form and return it to your organization. This form will give you information on funder contact information, grant funding guidelines, grant program information, application form request and sources information. This can be included in the letter that you send requesting grant funding information.

Tips & Warnings

• Make sure you know the person to whom you should send the request.

• Research carefully. No organization wants to review even a pre-application for a program not likely to qualify for funding.
