How to Create a Castle Bedroom Interior

Use a toy knight to help decorate a bedroom like a castle.

Whether your child is a knight in shining armor or a princess in charge of a kingdom, castles can add to the décor of your child's bedroom. This whimsical idea embraces everything that children love about fairy tales, and brings it to life in their very own room. A castle bedroom can even encourage creativity among your children because it opens up their imaginations to new storylines they can create themselves. You can create a castle bedroom interior that's well suited to your child to help encourage imaginative play.

Instructions

1. Choose a royal color so the castle bedroom looks majestic. Purple paint is a great option because boys generally enjoy dark shades and girls enjoy lighter shades.

2. Hang a chandelier in the center of the room if you want a castle with an elegant look. If you want the bedroom to look like a dreary castle room, use wall sconces that emit light similar to flickering candles.

3. Decorate your child's bed to look like a guard tower. You can use cardboard cut into the shape of a tower, and use zip ties to attach it to the bed. Paint it to look like a tower, and cut a window at the top so your knight or princess can see out.

4. Make a throne in the castle bedroom. If you don't want to decorate your child's bed like a guard tower, decorate a headboard with fake gemstones and make the bed look like a throne. Or, you can put a child-size chair in the room, decorate it with gemstones and richly colored paint, and that can be your child's throne.

5. Put up velvet drapes to cover any windows. Velvet has a royal feeling to it, and it can also insulate the room and block out the sunlight. Choose drapes that tie back so the sun can shine in when you want it to.

6. Place an armored knight in the corner of the bedroom to stand guard over the castle.

7. Stock the room with castle themed toys to inspire imaginative play. Dress up armor, glass slippers and fairy tale books are great elements to include as part of the décor.
