How to Apply K9 Advantix to Dogs

K9 Advantix is a topical product that can help alleviate the discomfort your dog may experience from certain pests. K9 Advantix repels and kills fleas, ticks and mosquitoes, in addition to repelling flies and killing chewing lice. Keeping ticks and mosquitoes away from your dog is important, as they can cause lyme disease and heartworms. Available in four different sizes, K9 Advantix is safe to use and easy to apply.

Instructions

    • 1

Place your dog in a standing position. If you have a small dog, place him on a raised surface and either stand behind or beside him. If you have a big dog, the easiest place to stand for application is beside him.

    • 2

Spread the hair at the shoulder blades. It is important to see the skin, because K9 Advantix needs to be placed directly on the skin for it to be effective.

    • 3

Empty the entire contents of the applicator onto one spot of skin, if your dog weighs less than twenty pounds. If your dog weighs more than twenty pounds, apply the K9 Advantix to three or four spots down the back, starting between the shoulder blades.

    • 4

Cover the application spots with your dog's hair, without touching the product. This will help keep the K9 Advantix from rubbing off. The medication will eventually spread down the dog's back as he moves around.

    • 5

Wash your hands thoroughly with soap to remove any product that may have gotten on your hands.

Tips & Warnings

  • You may want to apply K9 Advantix before you go to bed to avoid petting him and rubbing the medication off. Do not pet your dog in the medicated areas until the Advantix is completely absorbed.

  • K9 Advantix is waterproof; however, it is best to use a non-detergent shampoo when bathing your pooch.

  • K9 Advantix can be purchased from your veterinarian and should be applied once a month, all year long. K9 Advantix is available in four- and six-dose packs and comes in four sizes:10 pounds and under, 11 to 20 lbs., 21 to 55 lbs. and 56 lbs. and above.
