How to Create Icons for MSN Chat
An avatar is a computer user's reflection of themselves. When you're chatting on MSN, your avatar will be one of the ways people try to put a personality to the text that is being typed. With that being said, most users would like an avatar that expresses themselves as accurately as possible. MSN has a Web site that allows users to create their own personal avatars. There are thousands of different combinations to choose from, so you should have no problem making your avatar unique.

Go to www.msnicon.com and scroll down. On the left hand column you will see a link that says "Make Icons-Avatars." Click on the link and you will be brought to an icon maker.

Choose what font you want to use for your avatar from the list menu. You don't have to have any text on your avatar if you don't want any.

Choose what background you'd like to use for your avatar. There are over 100 backgrounds to choose from. If you don't want a background, you can choose "none."

Pick a border for your avatar. There are more than 20 different borders you can choose from. If you don't want a border, you can choose "none."

Choose whether you would like to align your text to the left, center or right of your avatar, and choose the font size and text color. If you don't want any text on your avatar, you can skip this step.

Choose where you would like your image to be aligned. It can only be aligned to the left or the right.

Type your text in the text-input box and then choose your text options. You can choose either Bold, Italic, Underline or Strikeout text options. You are not required to choose an option.

Choose the category you would like to pick your avatar image from. There are seven categories that include things like, "Casual," "Blondes," "Summer," "Guys" and "Designers"

Choose a specific image from the category list. The category list will be populated once you choose a category. All the categories have 12 different images to choose from.

Click the "Create your MSN Icon" button. There will be a preview box next to the button showing what your avatar looks like. If you want to make changes, you can go back and change whatever you want. The preview box will update as you make your changes.

Right click on your avatar and save it to your desktop. You can now upload your avatar to your MSN chat.

Tips & Warnings
You don't have to choose a background, text, image and border for your avatar. It's all up to you. If you only want a picture, that's fine. If you only want a border, that's fine too.
