Canceling your Verizon Wireless account before the end of your contract is possible, but you will likely have to pay a penalty of up to $175 for leaving the contract early.

Dial *611 from your Verizon phone. If you are not using your Verizon phone, dial (800) 922-0204 to call customer service.

At the prompt, enter your 10-digit wireless telephone number. Press 1 to proceed to the account features, which will give you five options to choose from. To speak with a customer service representative, press 5. You can also speak to a customer representative directly by pressing 0 at the main menu.

Tell the customer service representative you want to cancel your Verizon Wireless line. The representative will ask you a number of security questions in order to make sure you are the account holder. Some of the questions include your social security number to verify your identity, and your billing address.

Tips

Your Verizon Wireless account cannot be canceled online.

Warnings

Once you cancel your contract, you cannot port your old phone number to a different carrier.
