How to Take the Front Off of a GE Washing Machine
The most common problems with the GE washing machines are leaking problems. To repair the problem, you must take the front of the cabinet off of the unit. Normally, a leaking problem will require the transmission to be replaced, but it may be an entirely different cause. Disconnect the power to the washing machine by removing the cord from the electrical outlet.

Locate the spring clips between the top of the washing machine and the front panel. There will be one on both the right side and the left side. Push the spring clips down to release them.

Pull the top of the panel away from the cabinet. Pull the unit towards you, pulling it slightly off the ground in the back, releasing the clips at the bottom of the unit. Pull the front panel off.

Tips & Warnings
To remove the top from the washing machine, remove the screws in the end caps of the front control panel. There will be one on each side. Set the screws aside. Release the wire harness that runs from the console and attaches at the top base of the washing machine, by pulling at the base. Flip the console up over the machine, resting on its hinges. Pull the top of the machine off.
Reference your owner's manual and perform regular maintenance on your machine. Servicing your washer will prolong its life.
To eliminate odors in your machine, add a bit of baking soda in the washing cycle.
