How to Find the Security Number of a Credit Card

Often referred to as a Card Identification Number (CID) and a Card Verification Value 2 (CVV2), a card security number is a unique three to four-digit number printed on each credit card. When you make a purchase online or over the phone, you are often required to provide this number as proof that you have the credit card with you. The location of the security number varies depending on the credit card.
